Phone Card Buyer’s Guide

Now that the economy is weak all over the world I find myself branching out to the European market, where I once I only concentrated in Asia.

So I made my first 3 week stay in England, the longest ever. It was different then Asia of course but what is the same is how easy it is to make friends. Plus I needed to stay in touch with my new business contacts as well.

When I returned to the US, I looked into the phone card companies I normally use and checked through each company’s rates. So far Nobelcom has the best rates to call the United Kingdom from the United States. Here is a screen shot I took from their website:

Now some of you might be asking “Which phone card should I choose?” Well if you look at each phone cards details on Nobelcom’s website you’ll see from left to right that:

• Hello United Kingdom/Cellular – .99¢ weekly maintenance fee
• Talk United Kingdom/Cellular – .69¢ weekly maintenance fee
• Call United Kingdom/Cellular – .49¢ monthly maintenance fee
• 1 Second United Kingdom/Cellular – No maintenance fee

Most of you may have read that I don’t like using phone cards with fees. But I don’t mind buying phone cards with maintenance fees because there are ways around it. I’ll explain this simply by giving you a personal example.

During one particular week I had to work on a major deal with a customer in the UK. At the time I was back in the USA. I knew that I had to make a lot of calls within the week. So I was going to need a lot of minutes. For this particular scenario I chose to buy Hello United Kingdom phone card with the 0.9¢ per minute rate which comes with a .99¢ weekly fee. For $20 USD I get 2220 minutes. I used up those 2220 minutes during the particular week and successfully avoided the .99¢ weekly fee. If I had not used up all my minutes before, then the .99¢ weekly maintenance fee will continue to drain down the remaining value of my phone card.

So that’s how you choose which phone cards to choose. You can use what you learned here to decide which phone card is right for you from any phone card company, not just Nobelcom.
