Phone Card Buyer’s Guide

To keep in touch with my new friends and business associates, I use calling cards by Nobelcom. I know, I know. I keep recommending Nobelcom. They do have the best rates for calling Jakarta in this case. I would never recommend a calling card company I would never use.

With that said, below is a screen shot from Nobelcom’s website showing their calling cards to phone a land line in Indonesia, calling from the Continental USA:

 As you can see there are 4 calling cards with 4 different rates. So which one do you choose? Well that all depends on how often you will be calling. Because the first three cards from the left have maintenance fees;

• Hello Jakarta – .99¢/week
• Talk Jakarta – .69¢/week
• Call Jakarta – .49¢/month
• 1 Second Jakarta – No Maintenace fee

So this is how I choose a calling card from Nobelcom to phone Jakarta. If I know I will be making a lot of important business calls to my supplier within a week I will choose “Hello Jakarta”. Here’s why. For $20US I get 832 minutes at the rate of 2.4¢ per minute. That’s a really cheap rate. Since I know I’m going to be using up all those 832 minutes before the the week is up then I have successfully avoided the dreaded .99¢ per week maintenance fee. Yup it’s that simple folks.

Now, normally I only recommend phone cards with absolutely no fees. But maintence fees I don’t mind becaues I can always get around it. On the other hand I never ever buy calling cards with carrier surcharge fees, connection fees and other crazy taxes. Luckily Nobelcom  doesn’t charge such nonsense fees.

Keep in mind rates to call a cell phone in Indonesia is charged at a different rate. Here are the rates below from Nobelcom;
